Our history
The foundation stone for the Balz company history is laid with the founding of a tannery and agricultural business by Johannes Balz.
1834
1861
The sawmill is founded in Signau in the canton of Berne and continued through the generations.
1961
Rudolf Balz joins the company
1963
Rudolf Balz founded the company for cranes and conveyor systems and began trading in cranes and machinery.
Development and construction of the first board stacking system for edged and unedged boards. Rudolf Balz makes a name for himself in the international timber industry.
1970
Rudolf Balz is the fourth generation to take over the sawmill in Signau from his uncle. [more information at www.balz-holz.ch].
1972
The sawmill at the Signau site is flooded.
1978
1979
The most modern sawmill of its time is rebuilt at the new Obermattweg site in Langnau. The production hall for mechanical engineering was built at the same time.
1988
Jean-Paul Balz joins the Balz company.
1989
The sawmill, which dates back to 1979, is converted into a processing and service company, which bears the current name Balz Holz AG.
In the years to come, the Balz companies adapt to the constantly changing times with foresight and future-orientated thinking with innovations and renewals.
1998
Jean-Paul Balz takes over the management of the Balz company in the fifth generation. The Balz company is split into Balz Maschinen AG and Balz Holz AG.
2023
Niklaus Balz joins the Balz companies – ready to continue the Balz family’s successful company history in the sixth generation.
